IBA Staff and Management Called to Discuss Cuts
The Knesset Education Commission decided on Sunday to question Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Chairman Ofir Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation to meet sooner than the planned date of March 18th regarding the technicians strike at the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA). The employees claim they are bearing the brunt of the IBA's 100-million-shekel deficit.
The committee asked management to appear on Thursday to present its program of cuts that don't involve wages. It also accepted management's claim that it cannot pay off the entire debt in one year, and is asking the treasury to settle for a 50-million-shekel payment. The workers were asked to display how they are willing aid until reforms are implemented at the authority
