Rebuilt Jerusalem Synagogue to Have Giant Features

As the reconstruction of the Hurva synagogue in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's feeble City comes to a close, its architect says it should be an active synagogue and a traveller attraction. Interviewed by 's Hebrew service on Friday, Nachum Meltzer stated the structure was recreated using historical data, photographs from before its destruction and a 20th-century artist's model.
Meltzer said the photographs also allowed recreation of the synagogue's fixtures, such as the Holy Ark (Aron Kodesh in Hebrew) which spans four storeys or 11.5 meters. The replace with was created in the Ukraine and brought to Israel on the backs of camels in the 19th century
