Slightly More than 200 Missing Killed in Action

Lieutenant Colonel Gabbai Al-Majali, the head of the Israel Defense Forces' branch that deals in locating missing soldiers, stated on Sunday that there are slightly more than 200 killed in action whose final resting space is unknown. Interviewed on 's Hebrew news journal on the day that the IDF remembers those missing dead, he said the army has as much of an obligation to them as it does to living soldiers, an obligation that has his branch working constantly the rest of the year, out of the spotlight in between discoveries. Sunday's Hebrew date was the 7th of Adar, the anniversary of the death of Moses, whose final resting place is also not known.

The officer said that most of the missing are from the Conflict of Independence, even though there are others from other conflicts.new finds include the remains of a soldier who was killed at the Mandelbaum Gate in Jerusalem and six others found at Kibbutz Maoz Chaim. Another recommendation from the personnel branch resulted in the find of a soldier who was killed in the battles for the Tomb of Samuel.
