Police arrested a terrorist at the Qalandiya checkpoint in northern Jerusalem carrying a knife. The detainee stated he intended to carry out a stabbing assault. The IDF is checking into the incident. The Qalandiya checkpoint is one of the entrances from the PA controlled territory into Israel proper. The location has been the site of several attacks and tried attacks.

Qalandiya (also spelled Kalandia) has a population of approximately 11,000 Arab Muslims. According to a report in WorldNetDaily, much of the land of Qalandiya is owned by the Jewish National Fund. Lands purchased with Jewish donations in the early 1900s have been utilized for the construction of dozens of Arab apartment buildings, a refugee camp and a United Nations school.
