Commission Approves Desalination Plant for Sorek

The Interior Ministry's National Commission for Planning and Building National Infrastructures decided to send a plan for a water desalination plant in the Sorek area to the cabinet for approval. The plant, to be located south of the Shafdan wastewater treatment plant for the Tel Aviv area in Rishon Letzion, would be huge and able to process 300 million cubic meters into the water supply upon completion.

The commission stated that the proposed plant would not only be enormous yet would also be advanced. It would join other desalination plants, water conservation, pooling of resources, building of reservoirs and preservation of groundwater as ways to supply Israel's water needs
