The government will discuss in the near future details of the fresh fence to be built in the south of the state, intended at keeping African immigrants from reaching Israel by foot from Sinai. At Sunday's cabinet meeting, Netanyahu stated that construction of the fence along the Sinai border would probably start this year, equipped with advanced electronic features designed to create it difficult for migrants to sneak past it. The fence will, he said, stabilize the country by keeping out those seeking economic opportunities out of the country, even though "this will not negatively affect those seeking refuge from conflict."

Netanyahu said that Israel "is the only advanced country in the world which you can reach by foot from Africa. This has brought us security and illegal refugee problems that are growing."
