Law Would Restore Beit Frumin
A law that would restore “Beit Frumin,” the building that first housed the Knesset, was approved for its first reading Tuesday by the Knesset Education, Culture, and Sports Commission. The law was proposed by Mks Zvulun Orlev and Haim Amsalem. The law would establish a museum at the site and give it a major facelift. Beit Frumin served as the Knesset's home for 16 years, among1950-1966, and was the home of the first through fifth Knessets.
“Beit Frumin is a national and historical treasure of the Jewish people in the modern period,” Committee chairman MK Orlev stated. “Preserving it and turning it into a museum of the history of the Knesset will be an necessary tool for teaching civics and democracy. This law will prevent the building from falling into private hands, and enable us to preserve an important chapter in the history of Israel,” Orlev said.
