Ghajar Talks to Continue in the Coming Weeks
Israel and the United Nations have agreed to continue talks in the coming weeks on the future of the village of Ghajar which is split by the Israeli-Lebanese border. There had been talk of Israel removing troops from the northern side of the border, where they are guarding against drug smuggling and terrorist infiltration, as early as the stop of January.
Israel and the UN's Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) ended the third round of negotiations on the matter on Monday. The talks,calm by Foreign Ministry Director General Yossi Gal and outgoing UNIFIL commander Claudio Graziano focused on policing, education, and healthcare, among other civilian. According to a statement by Israel's foreign ministry, legal issues were also discussed, with the aim of clarifying the UNIFIL proposals. for the settlement of the Ghajar issue.
