Knesset commission Approves Tough Wastewater Standards

The Knesset Interior and Environmental Protection Commission approved wastewater standards on Monday. The committee vote caps an extended process which began with decisions made by the Inbar commission on wastewater quality standards.
The committee accepted a proposal by Chairman Dov Hanin of the Knesset's joint committee on health and the environment to accelerate implementation of the standards. The most stringent standard for wastewater flowing into rivers will be applied in five years instead of ten. The standard for wastewater that is returned to agriculture will be imposed in three years instead of five
