Mounted Police Officer Given Three Months of Service

The Magistrate's Court in Jerusalem gave a sentence of three months of population service to Israeli Riot Police officer David Edery who was accused of riding his horse over a demonstrator in the constrained eviction of the Jewish neighborhood of Amona.
Chairman of the Yesha Human Rights Organization, Orit Strook, stated in reply that the sentence is disgraceful, as this, "is one of the most serious incidents of police violence in Israel, it opens the way for further police violence."
The Samaria community of Amona was the site of a massive protest in 2006. Israeli police were sent to ruin nine homes after a Supreme Court case ruled them illegal. 100,000 people protested. 300 people were wounded.
