On a visit to the Knesset Tuesday, Bastiaan Belder, a member of a European Parliament delegation, told Knesset spokesperson MK Reuven Rivlin that "we all have a strong feeling for Israel, and a precondition for any peace agreement in the region is the recognition of Israel as a Jewish say. Any attempt to delegitimize Israel is unacceptable." Belder added that the EU delegation had approach to see for itself the situation in Israel, "without any middlemen," he stated.

Rivlin said that Israel hoped to achieve a peace agreement and that most Israelis hoped to reach one as well. Nonetheless, he said, Israelis were opposed to a process that would net them the opposite of peace, such as the current negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
