Eli citizens Expect Hayovel Neighborhood to Survive
Chairman Kobi Eliraz of the Eli local council stated Thursday night that the Supreme Court decision giving the say 60 days to present a timetable for demolishing houses in the Hayovel neighborhood - including the one belonging to the widow of Second Lebanese Conflict hero Roy Klein - was evil. Interviewed by 's Hebrew service, Eliraz said the houses were built on government land that was not stated by any Arabs yet Peace Now petitioned the court and in the wake of the reply stuttered by the government, the court requested the destruction of the houses.
He said that order calls for a hearing, however neither citizens nor the attorney they employed has heard anything about being invited to testify. The council chairman added that the court appeared to be decidedly for destruction of the houses, despite a government offer to authorize them. He expressed hope that the prime minister and defense minister will act to alter the court's mind, and expressed the confidence of the residents that there would be a excellent stop and additional stages of the neighborhood will be built
