Kadima to Offer No-Confidence Motion on Broadcasting

The Kadima party stated on Tuesday that it will offer a motion of no-confidence in the government next week in reply to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's decision on Monday to appoint Director General Eyal Gabbai of the Prime Minister's Office to deal with the crisis at the financially-troubled Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA). Gabbai replaces Information and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, who asked to be relieved of the assignment last week, after setting up candidates to lead the authority.

A Kadima statement issued on Tuesday says the Gabbai appointment makes public broadcasting political. The party called on the prime minister to work immediately for passage of Kadima's Broadcasting Authority law, which passed its first reading in the last Knesset
