Law vs. Ethics in Panel on Child Consumerism
Member of Knesset Danny Danon stated Tuesday he would support legislation to plod candies that tempt children away from checkout stands and supermarkets and place wholesome drinks in machines at schools and population centers as portion of legislation to alter the consumer culture to protect children. The Likud lawmaker's remarks were part of a panel discussion at the Be'er Sheva Conference on Child Welfare.
Countering the Knesset member's comments was Yael Arad, an expert on products and brand names for children, who said the stress must be on ethical behavior by companies that market products to children. An economist who is also a clinical psychologist confirmed, throughout the session, that taking a child shopping can add 10 percent to the bill
