Livni Primaries Only Ahead of General Elections
Kadima party Chairwoman Tzipi Livni stated Monday that the party would not hold elections for the party until just before general elections. Shaul Mofaz, second on Kadima's list, has threatened to split the party if leadership elections are not held soon.
Speaking to a meeting of the Kadima Knesset faction Livni said the party's regulations dictated primaries three months before general elections, yet if necessary for the excellent of the party, she would extend it to no more than nine months before elections. She said any other date meant the continuation of a combat of personalities instead of fighting the government and advancing Kadima's agenda. She said that in the name of democracy, anyone with an alternative could bring it up for the party to determine.
