In a security exercise Tuesday at Haifa port, rescue and security forces underwent a drill in which they faced the aftermath of a missile hitting one of the chemical storage depots in the area. The chosen chemical, bromide, can have lethal effect on people exposed to it for any length of time. In the drill, people living in Haifa's lower city, within two kilometers of the port, were considered as having been affected by a major bromide spill.

Throughout the drill, security officials deployed for the first time in Israel a system which can identify perilous chemicals in the field, founded on their makeup, and then immediately alert all rescue and defense employees on what precautions to hold.
