At a ceremony highlighting the activity of police in 2009, National Police Commander David Cohen on Tuesday stated that Arabs were represented in the ranks of violent criminals in excess to their percentage of the population. "The percentage of involvement of Israeli Arabs in violent crime is above their percentage in the population, and is getting worse." He said that dialogue with the Arab sector was ongoing, and that police had opened population policing centers in Arab areas. "We are, together with the Public Security Ministry, improving a plot to deal with the problems," Cohen said.
