Youth Gets NIS 30000 Over Cop Beating
A teenage resident of Jerusalem's Muslim Quarter was awarded a settlement of NIS 30,000 over a beating he received at the hands of police in 2005. The then-16 year feeble is today 21. According to the youth, he was standing outside his home when a policeman began beating him, after asking him to identify himself. The youth replied that he was too young to have an identity card, and the officer responded by hitting him in his head. A similar incident happened two weeks later, when the youth saw the officer who again demanded that he identify himself. Attorneys for the youth and police reached an out of court settlement in the matter, with the youth NIS 30,000 richer.
