Iraqi Leader Claims Two Al-Qaeda Leaders Killed
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki announced at a televised news conference on Monday that an Iraqi intelligence team had found and killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri, Al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq. Maliki stated the team had also killed Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the purported leader of the Islamic Say of Iraq, Al-Qaeda's local umbrella group.
Maliki said the two were tracked down in an operation in the Salach Ad-Din province north of Baghdad and that the US army had conducted DNA tests on the bodies. The claims were not immediately confirmed.
