Hamsa jewelry
The Khamsa, meaning five used in talismans, amulets and jewelry to safeguard against the "evil eye." It is greatly used in the countries of the Middle East and is commonly associated with Jewish culture in the region. Nonetheless, the emblem predates the rise of monotheistic religions, having been widely used in ancient times.
Jewish communities sometimes use the name Hand of Miriam, in reference to Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron. Nevertheless, the name Khamsa is more commonly used in the region.
Some associate the significance of the five fingers to the five books of the Torah for Jews. This symbolism may have evolved at a later stage, in view of the fact that archaeological evidence suggests the hamsa predates the religion.
