Jewish Star of David
The Star of David or Jewish Star (Magen David in Hebrew, מָגֵן דָּוִד) is a widely identified sign of Jewish uniqueness and Judaism. It is called after King David of ancient Israel; and its earliest notable public usage started in the Middle Ages, alongside the further time worn symbol of the menorah. Geometrically it is the hexagram.
With the formation of the state of Israel in 1948 the Jewish Star of David on the Flag of Israel has also come to be a symbol of Israel and has become connected with the Zionist movement.
